Species Description
Also known as Penstemon ‘Garnet’ it is widely grown in gardens and may escape. Native to Central America. Looks very similar to Penstemon roseus (Pinto Beardtongue / Kunth's Penstemon) but differs mainly in the sepals. P. roseus having them narrower and recurved at the tip with P. hartwegii having them broader, acuminate and more erect. Numerous cultivars exist such as P. hartwegii 'Schoenholzeri' and Penstemon x cultorum ‘Tabasco’.
