Fagopyrum esculentum Moench. - Buckwheat.
Erect, very sparsely hairy, little-branched annual to 60cm; leaves sagittate; perianth 2.5-4mm; achene 5-7mm, with straight margins; (2n=16). Neophyte-naturalised; casual on tips and waste ground, sometimes persisting, formerly widely cultivated but now mostly as standing food for game; formerly common, now infrequent, over most of British Isles but rare in Ireland and North Scotland; Asia.
