Species Description
Widespread and scattered throughout the UK. Habitat includes: Disturbed often seeded places such as new meadows, roadside verges, wasteland, arable fields etc. Growing habit: Annual / Biennial. Height: Up to 50 cm. Flowers: June to September.

Cota austriaca (Jacq.) Sch. Bip. (Anthemis austriaca Jacq.) - Austrian Chamomile.
Annual to 50cm; ligules white; receptacular scales oblong-lanceolate, cuspidate; inner and outer faces of achenes faintly ribbed, with short apical rim; (2n=18). Neophyte-casual; in dumped soil or newly sown grass or wild-flower areas, as contaminant, possibly also in wool and birdseed; scattered in Britain North to County Durham, East Perth, South Ireland, increasing; East & South East Europe. Resembles Anthemis arvensis, and often sown as and misrecorded as it; differs in neater, more closely and regularly lobed leaflets, receptacular scales becoming rigid (more or less prickly) in fruit, and achene characters (Marginal achenes dorsiventrally compressed, with 2 main marginal ribs; receptacle remaining flat to domed after flowering).
