Species Description

Widespread and fairly frequent throughout the UK but absent from much of Eastern England. Habitat includes: Damp, base-rich to neutral soils in places such as deciduous woodland, scrub, shaded hedge banks etc. Growing habit: Rhizomatous Perennial. Height: Up to 45 cm. Flowers: Late April to June. Other names include: Sweet Woodruff.

galium odoratum (L.) Scop. - Woodruff.

Erect perennial to 45cm; leaves 6-8(9) per whorl, with 1 main vein and distinct laterals, elliptic to oblanceolate; corolla white, with tube about as long as lobes; fruit with hooked bristles; 2n=44. Native; damp, base-rich woods and hedgerows; frequent throughout most of British Isles except Outer Isles, garden escape in many places, including Jersey.
