Species Description
Widespread throughout the UK and locally common. Habitat includes: woodland (rides, clearings, copses), hedgerows. Flowers: March to May. Perennial. Sign of ancient woodland. It spreads via rhizomes very slowly (by about 6 feet every 100 years). Height: 20 cm. Flower diameter: 20 - 40 mm.
