Species Description
Fairly common and widespread in the South, becoming very scarce in the North. Habitat includes: Well-drained, calcareous / base-rich soils in places such as hedgerows, scrub, woodland margins, wasteland etc. It is often found around Rabbit warrens as Flowers: May to September. Height: Up to 4 m. Growing habit: Dioecious, tuberous Perennial. It is Bitain's sole member of the cucurbit family. Other names include: Wild Hop (s), False Mandrake, English Mandrake, Wild Vine, Wild Nep, Tamus, Ladies' Seal, Tetterbury.
