Species Description

Widespread and fairly frequent throughout England but scattered elsewhere. Most common below a line from the Severn Estuary to the Wash. It is only native to the South East but has spread North and West. Habitat includes: Rough grassland, woodland margins (on chalk soils in S.E. England), disturbed places (often spread with grass seed), pastures, arable fields, field margins, roadside verges, dry banks, wasteland, churchyards etc. Growing habit: Biennial. Height: Up to 120 cm.
