Species Description

Habitat includes: Nutrient-rich mud on the dried-up margins of freshwater / brackish ponds, ditches trampled by livestock, gardens, parks, allotments, wasteland, manure heaps, farm tracks, field gateways etc. Growing habit: Annual. Height: Up to 80cm.

Oxybasis rubra (L.) S. Fuentes, Uotila & Borsch (Chenopodium glaucum L.) - Red Goosefoot.

Stems much to little branched, procumbent to erect, to 80cm; leaves ovate to triangular or elliptic, variably but often strongly lobed; plant often red-tinged, especially at fruiting; 2n=36. Native; cultivated and waste ground, often near sea, and on tips; frequent or common in much of England and Channel Islands, local or rare in rest of British Isles.
