Widespread in central and the S. East of England, scarce or local elsewhere in the UK. Habitat includes: Disturbed places such as road side verges, wasteland, river / stream sides, coasts, sand dunes, grassland, woodland edge, quarries, allotments, cemeteries etc. Flowers: July to September. Annual / Biennial. Height: Up to 2 m. Other names include: Wild Lettuce, Bitter Lettuce, Laitue Vireuse, Opium Lettuce, Poisonous Lettuce, Tall Lettuce, rakutu-karyumu-so.
