Common and widespread throughout the UK. Habitat includes: Prefers acidic soils but will grow on calcareous ones, in places such as hedge banks, open woodland / clearings, heathland, moorland margins, river banks, montane rocky slopes, sea-cliffs, walls, wasteland (found in great abundance in disturbed / burnt areas such as recently felled forestry plantations). Flowers: June to September. Height: Up to 1.5 m. Biennial / Perennial (short lived).
