Species Description
Was once extremely but then suffered a severe decline between the 1930s-1980s due to a change in farming techniques to mechanisation-ploughing fields more frequently and making new ones, and using herbicides, but still fairly common and is recovering. Habitat includes: meadows roadside verges, pastures, open woods, scrub. Other names include: Freckled face, Golden drops, Bunch of keys, Fairies' flower, Lady's fingers, Long legs and Milk maidens. Welsh names include Dagrau Mair, 'Mary's tears'. The name 'Cowslip' refers to the fact that they grow where cow-pats have been left or 'slupped'.
