Species Description
Widespread and fairly frequent in the South. Commonest hybrid orchid in the southern half of the UK. It is probably under recorded. Dactylorhiza fuchsii x D. praetermissa = D. x grandis. Chromosomes: 2n=60. The genus Dactylorhiza is renowned for its variability and difficult ID. D. fuchsii (Common Spotted Orchid) especially is extremely variable. The hybrid is partially fertile meaning it can back-cross with its parents causing all sorts of intermediates.
