Species Description
Widespread and fairly frequent throughout England and Wales. In Scotland and Ireland it is a casual. Habitat includes: Shallow, dry soils in places such as wasteland, gateways, paths, bases of walls, rough ground, roadside verges (often near habitation), coastal drift-lines etc. It was present in Britain in Roman times. It is in decline and has been since the 1950s especially in the North and West. Growing habit: Annual (Overwinters in milder regions). Flowers: May to September. Other names include: Buttonweed, Cheese Plant, Cheese-weed, Round-leaf Mallow, Common Mallow (USA).
