Species Description
Widespread and fairly frequent in the South, scattered further North into parts of Scotland. Habitat includes: Disturbed places with light, nutrient-rich soils such as allotments, arable fields, parks, gardens, churchyards, streets, wasteland, roadside verges, tips, walls etc. Flowers: July to October. Growing habit: Dioecious Annual. Height: 10 - 70 cm. Each plant can produce up to 135 million pollen grains. Discovered at archaeological deposits in Viking York. It has spread from ports and town gardens. Native to the Submediterranean-Subatlantic region.
