Species Description

Common and widespread throughout the UK. Habitat includes: hedgerows, open woodland / woodland edge, scrub, grassland, fens, stream / river sides etc. Height: Up to 10 m. This species is divided into 2 subsp: Salix caprea ssp. caprea, Salix caprea ssp. sphacelata. Catkins seen: March to April. Often goes by the name "Pussy Willow". Deciduous Perennial. Lifespan: Up to 300 years.
