Species Description

The UK's rarest timber tree. Only around 7,000 wild black poplars remain in the UK. Of these, only 600 are female trees. Although fairly commonly planted in parks. Best seen in Shropshire, Cheshire, Somerset, East Anglia. Habitat includes: Boggy conditions e.g. floodplains, ditches. In Bristol it is best seen in the Purdown location. Many Moth species rely on this tree solely e.g. hornet, wood leopard, poplar hawk and figure of eight Moths.
