Species Description
Stace 4:
Berberis glaucocarpa Stapf - Great Barberry.
Semi-evergreen shrub to 3m; spines mostly 3-partite; leaves 2.5-6(8)cm, oblanceolate to obovate, entire to sparsely spinose-toothed; flowers in stiff but often pendent racemes 20-70mm, yellow; fruit bluish-black, with dense white bloom. Neophyte-naturalised; planted for hedging and ornament; long naturalised in hedges in South Somerset and occasionally bird-sown elsewhere in Britain North to Renfrews; West Himalayas.
