Robust, slightly glandular. Stem very obtuse-angled, striate, glabrescent, with some pricklets becoming brownish and dull purple; prickles numerous, strong-based, subulate, scattered round the stem; leaflets 5, entire-based, glabrous above, pubescent to greyish felted beneath, serrulate or serrate-dentate, terminal leaflet elliptic-obovate, cuspidate. Panicle long, leafy, narrow, interrupted below, branches short, deeply divided, semi-erect; all leaflets obovate-subcuneate, finely serrate-dentate, prickles numerous. Flowers white or tinged pink. Calyx closely white felted and pubescent, slightly glandular. Carpels pilose. Receptacle pilose.
