Species Description

Found in grassland on Red Fescue. Dolerus picipes is extremely similar to D. niger and D. nigratus especially but there is a shiny unpunctured area adjacent to the sulci posterior to the ocelli.

There's 35 species of Dolerus in Britain of which only 11 are black and found in dry grassy places:

  • Dolerus aeneus x (is slim and has a bronzy sheen)
  • Dolerus anthracinus x (black with a blue-green tinge and covered in dark hairs)
  • Dolerus asper - (hairs on top of the head are shorter than the diameter of an ocellus)
