Species Description
Widespread and locally frequent throughout the UK. Habitat includes: grassland, scrub, heathland, moorland, downland, woodland rides, roadside verges, railway banks, wasteland etc. Life story: A day-flying moth. Food plant: Clovers, Black Medick, Lucerne, Common Bird’s-foot Trefoil and various grasses such as Cock’s-foot. Flight period: May to June. Wingspan: 25 - 30 mm. The caterpillars can be told from the similar Burnet Campion by its paler colouration, is missing the white triangle on the face and has two rather than three pairs of prolegs.
