Species Description
Widespread and fairly frequent in the South, becoming scarcer further North. Habitat includes: Dry / damp grasslands (usually on calcareous soils - downland), hay meadows, woodland rides, roadside verges etc. Flight period: May to June. Wingspan: 26 - 30 mm. Larval food plant: White Clover (Trifolium repens), Red Clover (Trifolium pratense), Black Medick (Medicago lupulina), Lucerne (Medicago sativa), Common Bird’s-foot Trefoil (Lotus corniculatus), other trefoils and vetches. Larval stage: June to late August before overwintering as pupae. Its name comes from the fact it is often found alongside Burnet Moths.
