Species Description
Widespread but local in the southern half of the UK; with sparse records along the Eastern coast of Scotland. Habitat includes: Damp sites around Alder and Birch such as woodland wooded. Life story: When young, larvae resemble bird droppings, but soon mature into a vibrant Black and yellow. Food plant: Larvae feed on a range of trees and shrubs including Alder, Birch's and Brambles. Flight period: May to June. Wingspan: 33 - 38 mm.
