Species Description
Widespread and fairly frequent throughout the UK; especially so in the South, mainly around Wales. Habitat includes: Places with lots of dead, rotting wood such as woodland, hedgerows, gardens, parks, allotments, churchyards etc. Length: 10 - 14 mm, Wing-length: 7 - 9.5 mm. Life story: Eggs are laid in rotting wood and wet sawdust. Flight period: April to November (peaks June / July).
