Species Description
Widespread but uncommon and restricted to coasts throughout the UK but does occasionally occur inland. Most common in North Western Scotland. Habitat includes: saline ground / shallow brackish water, in mud, gravel and shingle in places such as saltmarshes, tidal river banks, creeks, ditches, lakes, ponds, borrow-pits, marshes, damp pastures, freshwater habitats inland, flooded riversides, clay and gravel-pits etc. Growing habit: Rhizomatous Perennial Halophyte. Other names include: Cosmopolitan Bulrush, Alkali Bulrush, Saltmarsh Bulrush, Saltmarsh Tuber Bulrush, Bayonet Grass.
