Species Description
A rare and scattered throughout England and Wales. An alien sometimes grown in gardens and often used in bird seed from where it is dispersed. Habitat includes: roadside verges, wasteland, margins of ponds, lakes, reservoirs, ditches, rhynes etc. Growing habit: Rhizomatous Perennial. Height: Up to 90 cm. Flowers: July to October. Other names include: Nutsedge, Tall Flat-sedge, Umbrella Sedge, Nutgrass, Tall Nutgrass, Chufa, Earth Almond, Zula Nuts, Edible Galingale, Cyperus vegetus (old name).
