Species Description
Widespread and fairly frequent through most of the UK except for Wales, the far South West, parts of the South East and Coastal Scotland. Habitat includes: Calcareous rendzina and brown earth soils, over chalk / limestone, but also over glacial deposits and basic igneous rocks such as well-grazed chalk / limestone downland, screes, cliffs, limestone pavements, open Fraxinus (Beach) woods, sand dunes, montane ledges. Other names include: Helictotrichon pratense. It is in decline in South-eastern lowland Britain. Growing habit: Perennial. Height: Up to 85 cm.
