Species Description
Widespread and fairly frequent throughout the South being scattered in the North. Habitat includes: Places with dry lime-rich (ssp. divulsa will tolerate acid) soil such as roadside verges, hedge banks, woodland rides, scrub, rough grassland etc. 2 subspecies occur: (Grey Sedge) Carex divulsa ssp. divulsa (most common of the two), (Many-leaved Sedge) Carex divulsa ssp. leersii (rarer of the two but more widely distributed). Other names include: Hesg Llwyd (Welsh). Perennial. Flowers: May to August. (ssp. leersii = May to June and ssp. divulsa = June to August).
