Species Description
Widespread and fairly frequent throughout the UK as a casual. It often escapes from cultivation or by bird seed. Habitat includes: Disturbed / cultivated places such as wasteland, pavements, parks, allotments, tips, roadside verges etc. Flowers: June to July. Growing habit: Annual. Other names include: Common Wheat. Its ancestors originated from the Middle East to South Asia (India, Iran, Lebanon-Syria, Pakistan, Palestine, Transcaucasus, West Himalaya). It was not noted in the wild until 1927.
