Species Description
Common and widespread in the southern half of the UK; more localised in the North. Habitat includes: Wet well-vegetated sites in places such as marshland, pond and lake margins, the banks of canals, rivers, streams, ditches, dykes, rhynes etc. Life story: Larvae are parasites on caterpillars and other young insects. Adults nectar on umbellifers such as Wild Angelica. Flight period: April to October. Length: 9 - 16 mm.
