Species Description

Frequent throughout the UK. In favoured habitats it can be very common. Habitats include: shady places e.g. Woodland, walls, rock faces. I've even seen it growing in a road drain. Other names include: Phyllitis scolopendrium , Hart's-tongue, Hart's Tongue Fern. Evergreen Perennial.

A number of forms have been named:

  • Scolopendrium vulgare crispum subfimbriatum cristatum
  • Phyllitis scolopendrium crispa 'Christopher Robinson' (now Asplenium scolopendrium (Crispum Group) 'Christopher Robinson')
