Species Description
Widespread and locally frequent throughout England, Wales and southern Scotland. Habitat includes: Places with shallow, still water such as ponds, the edges of lakes, slow moving rivers / streams, dykes etc. Flight period: Late May to Early August. Life story: Nymphs take 1 - 3 years to develop and lay partially buried in the bottom mud layer. It is quick to colonise new water sources and the larvae can survive in those which temporarily dry up.
