Species Description
The native subspecies britannicus is restricted to the Norfolk Broads but the continental subspecies gorganus occurs as a migrant and has been widely observed; predominantly in the south. Habitat includes: Fens and marshes though the migrant may be found anywhere, including gardens. Food Plant: The native race feeds solely on Milk-parsley (Peucedanum palustre) but the continental form is less fussy and will use a variety of umbellifers such as Wild Carrot (Daucus carota), Wild Angelica (Angelica sylvestris) and Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare). Flight period: mid May to early July with a second smaller generation sometimes occurring from mid August to late September).
