Species Description

Widespread and local in the South, being concentrated in the South East. It is spreading. Habitat includes: Dry grassy places such as meadows, coasts, limestone / chalk downland wasteland etc. Seen: All year round. Length: 7 - 8 mm.

Confusion species:

Stictopleurus abutilon from which it is told by having 'half circles' (not full circles) on the pronotum behind the eyes, punctations continuing on the band in front (not absent and appearing smooth as in S. abutilon). It is overall generally a darker species than S. butilon with dot markings on the margins larger, often connecting and square in shape. Also the antenna's final segment is more or less the same colour as the rest but slightly darker (normally distinctly different and often reddish-brown in S. abutilon).
