Species Description
Common and widespread throughout the UK. Habitat includes: gardens, parks, allotments (especially on beans), churchyards, woodland, hedgerows, scrub, wasteland, roadside verges, coasts etc. Other names include: Black Fly. Length: 1.2 - 2.9 mm. Life story: During the Summer Females can lay up to 5 live young a day causing colonies to form rapidly. When the colonies become over-populated, they move to different locations by producing winged aphids. During the cooler months, aphids mate and produce eggs which overwinter.
