Ladybirds - Coccinellidae
Group Description
Comprised of 55 species. Of these, 6 are introduced and another 5 are now extinct or occasional. Another species which was thought to be extinct (13-spot Ladybird - Hippodamia tredecimpunctata) was rediscovered in 2000 but they exist as migrants along the south coast of England and a very small colony was found in Devon in 2011. In all there are 48 resident species in the UK (42 native) of which 41 are common-ish.
