Species Description

Common and widespread in the South, becoming less so in the North. Habitat includes: grassland, meadows, open woodland, pasture, hedgerows, field margins, wasteland, roadside verges, railway banks, gardens, parks, allotments, churchyards etc. Seen: Mid May to late June. Length: 9 - 12.5 mm. Life story: Adults hunt other insects by lying in wait on flowers for unsuspecting prey. Sailor Beetle
