Species Description
Widespread but local in the South extending up to Cumbria. Habitat includes: Flower rich sites (especially ones which contain Bird's-foot Trefoils) in places such as calcareous grassland, heathland, sand dunes, vegetated shingle, woodland etc. Life Story: Nests in hollow stems, both woody stems of Brambles and Roses, but also those of herbaceous species like Ragworts and Thistles. Flight Period: Late May to August (sometimes September). Diet: Pollen from Common Bird's-foot Trefoil, Greater Bird's-foot Trefoil, Nectar from Buttercups, Red Clover, Bird's-foot Trefoil's, Horseshoe Vetch, Heaths, Field Scabious, Hawk's-beard's, Dandelion's. Parasites: Cleptoparasitic Megachiline Bee (Stelis ornatula), Hoplocryptus bellosus.
