Species Description

Widely distributed in the Southern half of the UK but less so in the North. Habitat includes: gardens, parks, allotments, church yards, woodland, fens, heaths, grassland, moors, hedgerows, road side verges. Other names include: Fork-tailed Flower Bee. Unlike other Anthophora species, which excavate nests in soil. This species excavates its nest burrows in rotten wood. Length= 10-14mm.
