Species Description

Widespread but scattered in the South. Sparse in the North. Habitat includes: under stones, wood, grassland, chalk downland, heathland etc. Seen late Spring to Early Autumn (Peaks in late spring / early summer and late summer / early autumn). Head is narrowed and quite pointed. Almost uniformly black only the tarsi being slightly browner.

ID: Z. apricorum

Tibial apophysis straight. Embolus distally with lobe-shaped apophysis. Anterior cuticular fold of epigyne parallel to posterior cuticular fold. Opisthosoma brown-black with dark brown scuticula. Body length male: 5.1-8.2 mm Body length female: 5.4-9.8 mm

Z. latreillei

Embolus short and rod-shaped. Epigyne with several transverse, curved cuticular folds below ear-shaped protrusion. Colour dark red-brown to brown-black. Femur I with bright yellow spot. Tarsus light. Opisthosoma male: with scuticula. Body length male: 4.5-7.5 mm Body length female: 5.3-9.5 mm
