ssp. collina (Wallr.) Nyman Without stolons, many scarcely dentate leaflets, the terminal of which is as wide as the rest. Found in dry limestone grassland.
ssp. sambucifolia (J.C. Mikan ex Pohl) W.R. Hayw. The more frequent subspecies with stolons, fewer more dentate leaflets on stem leaves - the terminal being the largest; found in damp grassland, woodland rides, flushes, stream-sides and boggy spots. Also widely grown in gardens and sometimes escapes.
