Cemeteries / Churchyards

Cemeteries and churchyards are pretty much the same thing. The difference being size, age (usually the first being larger and younger than the latter) and the fact that one surrounds a church and the other does not. Also Churchyards don't always have burial grounds. They can be hugely important in supporting biodiversity (particularly in Urban areas) due to their quiet, secluded nature and especially so if they are wild with encroaching scrub, long grass and lichen covered gravestones. Not if they are neatly manicured with not a blade of grass out of place.
