Species Description

Scattered in the South. Habitat includes: Dry calcareous soils in places such as grassland, roadside verges, wasteland, woodland rides etc. Growing habit: Rhizomatous Perennial. Height: Up to 30 cm. Flowers: June to October. Cultivated in Britain by 1713 and was first recorded in the wild in 1886.

Prunella laciniata (L.) L. - Cut-leaved Selfheal.

Differs from P. vulgaris in leaves variably shaped, often some entire but at least the upper deeply divided more or less to midrib; corolla usually 15-17mm, creamy-yellow or -white; rarely pale blue; (2n=28). Neophyte-naturalised; calcareous grassland; scattered in South and Central England North to Nottinghamshire, Alderney, County Kilkenny, decreasing.
