Species Description
Occasional as a casual throughout lowland parts of the UK. It is most common in the South. In the Bristol region it is extremely rare and has only been recorded a few times. Habitat includes: disturbed places such as wasteland, arable fields, allotments etc. Growing habit: Annual. Height: Up to 50 cm. Flowers: June to September (it will continue to flower in mild areas up until the first frosts). Other names include: Italian Clover, Scarlet Clover, Carnation Clover. Used as Green manure and fodder crop. There are 2 subspecies: Crimson Clover (Trifolium incarnatum ssp. incarnatum) - Neophyte, Long-headed Clover (Trifolium incarnatum ssp. molinerii) - Native.
