Species Description

Stace 4:

Crataegus crus-galli L. - Cockspurthorn.

Tree to 10m; spines 3-8cm, medium; leaves elliptic to obovate, doubly serrate, not lobed; fruits subglobose, about 10mm, red; (2n=51, 68). Neophyte-survivor; formerly much planted and still persistent in hedges in Britain North to North East Yorkshire, over-recorded for C. persimilis; East North America.
