Species Description

Widespread throughout the UK but scarcer in the north. Habitat includes: hedgerows, woodland, heathland, downland, wasteland etc. Life story: hosts on the larvae of moths, mainly the arctiine (Tiger Moths) including: Arctia villica (Cream-spot Tiger), A. caja (Garden Tiger), Parasemia plantaginis (Wood Tiger), Phragmatobia fuliginosa (Ruby Tiger) and Spilosoma lubricepeda (White Ermine). Flight period: May to August.
